Hello,

I have good news. As some of you know GrassRoots, the virtual community
based at St. Johns University is proud to announce that we have been
chosen as semifinalists in two categories, Community and
Telecollaboration. Part of the reason for this is the people who have
come to GrassRoots from the lists on St. John's listserver. You, folks,
are the reason for our jubilation. If we win, we will get great
recognition, and the funding we so badly need! So, though this news is
wonderful, we need all you folks to send as many positive thoughts to
whatever powers you believe in, so that GR will win through to the gold.
Here is the actual notice which Dr.Z received this morning.

Project Title: GrassRoots: Catalyst for Change

Dear Robert Zenhausern:

Congratulations! From a field of over 850 NII Awards entries, yours has
been selected as a Semi-Finalist in the Community category. We're proud
to have you as a participant in the Second Annual NII Awards, and to
include you among the elite group offered to our judges for possible
inclusion in the Finalist round. Wherever your entry moves from here,
you've already shown yourselves to be resourceful, creative and talented
pioneers in the Information Revolution.

On Tuesday, October 22, the rest of the world learned what we're telling
you now. Your status as a Semi-Finalist is now posted on the NII
Website at http://www.gii.awards.com. We encourage you to reach out to
local media in your area with information about your newly won status.
Direct them to our site for background on the Awards, and to get the
credit you deserve for what you've accomplished. Local newspapers, news
radio stations, local television newscasts, wire service bureaus and
neighborhood weeklies all like to give credit to local accomplishments.
Alumni journals and the PTA/parent news letters of your children's
schools do too. Don't be shy about offering them the opportunity. There
is a press release that they can access from our "What's New" page.

On Tuesday November 12, one week after the US chooses a president, the
NII Judges will announce a selection of its own: the Finalists in each
of our ten categories. There will be 6 per category. As you may recall,
the categories are Arts and Entertainment, Business, Children,
Community, Education, Government, Health, Telecollaboration, Public
Access, and Next Generation. If you've been designated a Finalist we'll
notify you by email as we are
doing now.

Finally, we encourage you to put an NII Awards logo on your site -
you've earned it! And with it, visitors can link over to us to find out
just what it took to earn the recognition that's come to you today. To
download specially-prepared graphics, point your browser to

Again, congratulations and best wishes for continued success,
