Mission End Date: 2.80803
============================================

The crew finds the USS ETERNITY stuck in the gravitational well of a black hole. After modifying a support craft to survive the gravity well, an away team travels over to find that the crew of the ETERNITY have all been infected with some sort of inter-dimensional virus that has mutated them into different species. Curiously, instead of being mutated at random or by the base species of the crewmember, the ETERNITY crew is mutating into groups or sects of alien species. The away team finds that some sort of alien lifeform has attached itself to the ETERNITY’s warp core, and has built semi-sentient webs across the ship; assimilating and mutating the ETERNITY as well as her crew.

Lieutenant JG Vort is attacked by crewmembers and her EV suit is damaged. Shortly thereafter, the arm that is exposed starts to feel numb and she starts to undergo the first stages of mutation. The alien entity, now aware of the presence of the USS STONEHENGE, reproduces itself and sends a part of itself through space which attaches to the STONEHENGE’s warp engines. Immediately thereafter all telepaths on the ship fall victim to a psychic attack.

The away team is pulled back; and Lieutenant Vort is rushed to sickbay; while the STONEHENGE crew works against a time limit to rid their ship of the alien presence before it consumes them. Those undergoing mutation find it an almost addictively pleasant experience. Thought telepathic contact, Commander Peter Aspinall finds out that this being is not an alien, but some sort of living probe. It belongs to another dimensional reality and was created by very powerful aliens – similar to the prophets – who realized that their universe was dying; collapsing from dimensional decay. So, in desperation, they programmed a sentient probe with all the information on the various species and planets, ships and elements – every detail of their universe they could record. And, as a last-ditch effort to save their universe from extinction, they sent the probe through a black hole.

The probe’s instructions were simple: assimilate the dimensional universe it enters and recreate the universe that had died. It starts with organic life – mutating it to correspond with the data it has recorded, moving on to the inorganic elements of the ships, and finally out into space where it would assimilate planets, systems, stars – an entire universe.

The bit of the living probe that is attached to the STONEHENGE is still weak and vulnerable to psychic assault. The ship’s telepaths are able to loosen its hold, while the crew applies a serum of barbituates to suppress the neurotransmitters that the alien entity is using to control the organic mutation. Able to pry the probe off the STONEHENGE, they lure it back to the ETERNITY by remotely firing up the Eternity’s warp core. Then using some might fancy flying, the FCO snags the Eternity with a tractor beam and swings it into the black hole; sending both ship and probe out of our universe.

To what dimension? That was left as an unanswered question.

End Log.
