The Patriot was rushed out of dock to rendezvous with a small task force of ships at DS3. The mission was to, with the help of the Borg and their Transwarp tunnels, to re-establish contact with the silent Gateway Station. The wormhole at Bajor had been closed for 6 months, and in that time there had been no word from Gateway's crew.

Upon arriving in the Andaran sector, the task force was immediately sent into a combat situation, as the Dominion had begun attacking the Outpost. The fleet pushed off the attackers, and after making contact with those on the station, began assisting with repairs.

During this time the Dominion had began regrouping in an attempt to take the station from the reinforced Starfleet presence.

A Changeling infiltrator sabotaged the USS Independence which lost its upper hull in the attack. The changeling was later killed in a sacrifice by the station's chief counselor.

The Wormhole opened again and reinforcements in the form of the 3rd 8th and 11th fleets were dispatched to the area. While enroute, the Dominion once again attacked, destroying most of the task force, and severely damaging the Patriot.

The Starfleet personnel used the resources at hand, and loaded the derelict Saucer of the destroyed USS Eidolin with tricobalt bombs, and using the Marine Assault ship USS Counterstrike (assigned to the Marine detachment on the Patriot) to tow the ship into the middle of the Dominion Battle fleet, and was detonated.

The Independence used one of her remaining warp cores to seal the subspace rift, after allowing the Counterstrike to carve a small path through the Dominion lines. The Counterstrike was left adrift after completing this attack run, and her crew abandoned the ship to be recovered after the battle.

The 3rd fleet arrived, and destroyed the remaining Dominion forces, excepting the Dominion Flagship which fled the battle when the fleet arrived. A number of 3rd fleet ships were lost as well (see the 3rd fleet manifest for details) and repair operations began to Patriot and Gateway.

Patriot was towed through the wormhole to a portable drydock to have structural repairs completed before returning to gateway to allow her crew to re-board.

After making sufficient repairs, and restocking of supplies, the patriot will proceed to her next assignment, leaving the 8th and 11th fleets to defend gateway until the 13th fleet arrives to relieve them. (approx date arrival is early march)

The original task force consisted of:
USS Patriot NCC-5781-A, a 3rd Generation Nova class Assault Cruiser,
USS Honshu, NCC-922, a Nebula class Torpedo Frigate,
USS Independence NCC-983, a Prometheus class Tactical Cruiser,
USS Guadalcanal NCC-8001, a Midway class Carrier,
USS Rhode Island NCC-7003, a 2nd Generation Nova class Combat Destroyer
USS Mercy NCC-6107, a Sanctity class Medical Cruiser.

Of these ships, only the Mercy and the Patriot survived relatively intact though the Patriot required extensive repairs once reinforcements arrived. Honshu's Saucer is docked at Starbase 9.
