Stardate 2.90108
Station Log
Filed By: Cdr Kathryn MacNeil MD, Executive Officer
Mission Title: "Future's End"
Mission Start Date: 2.90108 (Jan 8 2009)
Mission End Date: 2.90213 (Feb 13 2009)
It all began when the ABURAMUSHI embarked on its shakedown cruise. Just after our departure from the station, an explosion erupted, which was caused by sabotage to the ship’s systems. The ship, having lost its engines at the time, began plunging towards the Andaran sun. It was only in the nick of time when Ensign Crichton got warp drive online and the ship managed to escape.
Our problems didn’t end there. In fact they were just beginning to worsen. We encountered a patrol of Dominion vessels who immediately declared to our puzzlement that we had violated their space. I tried to point out that this was still Federation territory but that didn’t seem to have gotten through their heads as the Vorta then stated we would be taken back to the station to be processed by the Overseer and the ship handed to the Borg for assimilation. This was all bizarre. First off, there was no ‘Overseer’ at the GATEWAY and assimilation – as far as I was aware the Borg and Dominion were not allied.
Anyway, our exchange with the enemy was shortened, when a group of unknown vessels arrived and took out the entire Dominion taskforce. Our rescuers immediately escorted us away from the area to a safer location. However I was baffled even more, when the Commander of the group’s lead ship DEFENDER introduced himself as Raxl Dreyton, looking much older than the man who performed my wedding ceremony. Something was not right here.
We soon found out to our shock that when getting away from the sun, the ship ended up jumping 17 years into the future. Major Varn and I had a meeting with Commander Dreyton and it was then we were informed the Dominion won the war. He further explained an extremist faction took over the Borg Government and thus further cemented an alliance between the Borg and the Dominion.
From that point on, the war for the Federation took its turn for the worst. The Federation finally lost when a combined Dominion-Borg fleet successfully captured the GATEWAY in a battle infamously known in this timeline as the Third Siege, where many perished including me. In this future, the Dominion and their allies controlled most of the galaxy and only P’narra remained the last modern free world.
We soon found out our rescuers were members of the Federation Resistance Movement (FRM), a group formed to fight against their Dominion oppressors. Major Varn in this future was the founder of this movement and died during a raid made by the resistance against the station, where thousands of prisoners were freed. We also realized then that our jump to this time was already part of the normal timeline, so just returning back home was not enough to change the events leading to this bleak future. But nevertheless we still needed to return back to our time and hoped to find a way to change this timeline towards a better future.
The ABURAMUSHI was severely damaged from the sabotage and the trip through time. Ensign Crichton reported the warp core was irreparable and that we needed a new one. The FRM refused to spare any of their ships, which left us only one option – go to the GATEWAY and rummage through the wreckage of Federation vessels left over from the Third Siege to find a replacement core. The mission was risky, even suicidal with the odds strongly against us but we had no choice.
In addition to obtaining a warp core, the plan also involved breaking out the prisoners from the station. Once we found the core, a signal would be sent to the FRM fleet, which would then arrive at the GATEWAY to get the prisoners off the station.
Commander Dreyton lent us a runabout that would transport us to the station and sent along one of his men, a Lt. Cmdr. Aleksey Nikitin, who in our time was a freelance reporter to act as our guide. Colonel Williams was attempting to get in contact with the P’narrans in the hopes of acquiring their help.
Upon arrival at the GATEWAY, Major Varn and Col. Williams headed for the wreckage, while Cmdr. Nikitin, I, Ensign Crichton, CWO Halcyon, Lt. Cmdr. Drake, Xana Bonviva and Trisha Giddons entered the station. We were taken to the backroom of a merchant’s establishment, also the resistance’s headquarters here on the station.
During the trip to the HQ, a fight ensued between Ms. Giddons and a Ferengi pickpocket resulting in her arrest by the Jem’Hadar. This made an already heightened situation even worse. Trisha’s capture put a wrench in our operation as there was a chance she would be forced to reveal our prison break plans. We needed to act fast as apparently the Overseer, a monstrosity and a murderous sadist from what was reported by others who had dealings with her, decided the fate of the prisoners at her whim.
Firstly we needed to find a computer terminal, where we could gain access to the station’s plans to find a weakness in the Detention Module’s defenses. Nikitin found the person who would help us with that and it was an older Dahlia Bonviva-McInnis – Xana’s daughter.
During the planning stages of the operation, we had encountered Crichton’s older self, his and Xana’s son both of whom came to the backroom – apparently we found out then that Xana had died before the Third Siege and we had also met Thomas Varn’s daughter. I met the future versions of Dr. Grace Poe, Captain Anaqueen Spankryz (no longer a Captain in this future), Cynthia Matilde, a fedcom reporter in our time and another companion who visited our hideout. I can only comment that these encounters with our future selves, future versions of our loved ones and friends were interesting, yet quite emotional.
Our time for planning was cut short when we received word that P’narran ships were on their way – intent on destroying the station. We needed to act fast. The P’narrans arrived before the operation started and fired a torpedo at the Habitat module releasing thaleron radiation thereby instantly killing everyone there – a population of 100,000 inhabitants.
Meanwhile at the wreckage, a replacement core was found but Col. Williams, Major Varn and the rest of the team were beamed by the P’narrans to their lead vessel, the PBS VENDETTA before anything further could be done with it. Varn and Williams reported running into an older Jaxsper Lawrence, Commander Davidson’s son, serving under Lord Damien Williams, the CO of the VENDETTA and Colonel Williams’ son.
The P’narrans informed Williams that in this timeline he was killed when the replacement core exploded and so they transported him and the others to prevent that from happening – thus changing the timeline where the Third Siege took place much sooner. Apparently in that original timeline, the P’narrans refused to help the Federation due to Colonel William’s loss and they believed the sabotage to the ABURAMUSHI, leading to its trip the future, was done by persons within the Federation.
When the P’narrans were going to hold Williams and Varn against their will on their ship, the two along with the older version of Lt. JG Kyle Calhoun, the ABURAMUSHI’s weapons officer, managed to escape to the station to join the others, taking with them the plans for the hyperwarp drive technology.
The P’narran and the FRM fleets began engaging the Dominion in battle. The prison break was underway. Drake, Halcyon and I were to infiltrate the prison, while the others remained behind to take care of the Detention Module’s defenses. We moved in after Dahlia managed to shut off internal communications and security systems in that module.
The situation in the prison was chaotic, where a lot of prisoners and Jem’Hadar troops were locked in struggles. We found Trisha, who had already left her cell and escaped back to our ship. We also discovered the fate of Commander Davidson in this future during this operation – she was a prisoner and had died.
Once the majority of the prisoners and all away team members were transported to the FRM ships and the ABURAMUSHI respectively, the P’narrans then proceeded to destroy the station.
With the help of a device created by the future Kyle Calhoun, we were able to successfully return back to our own time. Sadly the scars we sustained from this experience would take a while to heal but there was still the question as to how we would prevent this terrible future from happening.
