Mission Title: "To the Rescue"

Prime Minister Blithis of ANDARA had secretly requested our assistance in investigating the cause of the violence by children in their rural townships. Because of the Andaran’s pact with the Dominion, the senior staff minus Cmdr. Daisy Davidson and Lt. Randall Giles had to go under cover as mining merchants for their mission in ANDARA. We planned on conducting the investigation in Elcar Village , where the violence was first sited.

Upon arriving at our destination, we were greeted by one of the villagers, who invited us to their great hall to join in the evening feast. During the feast, a news broadcast transmitted by a television-like device known as the Window put all Andarans and majority of the undercover officers in a trance for a brief moment. After the broadcast was over, everyone was in a state of confusion. We discovered shortly that Lt. JG Thomas Varn was blinded by the transmission and was in urgent need of medical attention.

After we left the hall, two dead Andaran birds were discovered to have suffered the same fate as Lt. Varn. Soon after that, a young, Andaran boy was found attacking his father. Lt. Cmdr. H.H. Drake and Lt. Trella Palandora ran interference in the struggle and managed to save the adult Andaran. We found then that the child became insane after viewing the broadcast.

When Lt. Cmdr. Eishnala Kor and Lt. Jake Crichton informed the station of Thomas’ blindness, Cmdr. Davidson informed them she was arriving in the CHANTICO. After the CHANTICO’s arrival, Thomas was transported to the ship. He later returned back to the planet after getting fitted with new eyes.

Upon further investigation, the following were discovered. Firstly, it was not the Window that was responsible for the children’s insanity but the signal transmitted through the device. Medical scans made on the affected children held in the detention facility, revealed an unusually high stimulation of their hypothalamuses. We deduced the signal was responsible. I even managed to get one of the children transported back to the CHANTICO after he went into a seizure, inadvertently blowing up my cover to the villagers.

Dominion forces had discovered our presence in the village, which forced us to escape the planet. During a struggle with a Dominion battleship that was sent after us, Lt. Cmdr. Drake beamed on board the other vessel and immediately managed to stop it from attacking us but unfortunately got captured in the process. We had to evacuate to the CHANTICO, when the freighter exploded due to further attacks by Dominion fighters.

Cmdr. Davidson, in order to divert attention away from the investigation, had decided to open negotiations with the Andaran Prime Minister in the full view of the public and press. Things went from bad to worse when the Vorta named Vertec showed up and arrested both the Commander and the Prime Minister. We soon discovered both Cmdr. Davidson and Cmdr. Drake were sent to one of the Dominion labour camps.

Lt. Crichton managed to locate the source of the signal to be somewhere in a highly populated Andaran city. Lt. Varn set up an ingenious plan to generate a duonetic field around the planet, thereby rendering all technology down there unworkable. The plan also involved sending science teams including Lt. Varn down to the planet for deployment of some of the devices.

After the field was activated, a 3-person away team led by Lt. Cmdr. Kor beamed down to the planet, their mission objective to find and destroy the signal source. Kor’s team managed to rendezvous with Lt. Varn and the others at a trader’s establishment that was found to be the originator of the signal.

Cmdr. Kor, Lt. Nurunyun and Lt. Varn decided to investigate the establishment, while the others returned to the site, where the devices were deployed and ordered to deactivate them after twenty minutes. During the investigation of the trading outpost, the team to their dismay discovered the place to be in disarray and the equipment destroyed. They also ran into a founder and Jem’Hadar troops. It was soon discovered the Dominion were not responsible for hurting the children.

Spotting a man escaping, the away team and the Dominion forces followed him to a cliff facing an ocean, where a trading ship was preparing to leave. A fight ensued and one of the criminals managed to escape in a small craft, which was discovered to contain the signal device. Lt. Varn flew after the vessel along with the Founder and after a brief struggle, wrested the device away from the criminal.

Back in the CHANTICO, we had run into problems during the process of deactivating the duonetic field devices. The field network got damaged during a brief skirmish with an unknown vessel, which self-destructed. Lt. Crichton found a solution to remedy the problem, thus enabling us to shut down the network and bring our teams back home.

Dr. Poe successfully manufactured a chemical, capable of reversing the affects of the mind altering signal. A medical team was sent down to distribute the chemical used to treat the children’s condition.

Meanwhile on the planet, more Dominion forces arrived, preparing to arrest Cmdr. Kor and Lt. Nurunyun. Apparently, the culprits responsible for using the signal to alter the children’s minds were part of a child pornography ring. The Dominion had planned on framing Starfleet for the crimes. The CHANTICO beamed the away team out of the planet, thus ruining the Dominion’s plan.

We returned back to the station upon completion of our mission on ANDARA.
