ARRESTS MADE FOLLOWING ACHERON SCANDAL
Previous arrests of Gateway staff overturned following investigation
By Tom Middleman

Starfleet officials today announced the arrest of Captain Sophie Lovelace, Commanding officer of the USS Acheron, on charges of conspiracy, following an investigation on the arrests of several of the senior Gateway Station staff made earlier last month. It is unclear how the investigation was carried out, or what this scandal involves, but inside sources indicate illegal genetic and cloning experimentation were being conducted on the Acheron. The crew of the Acheron gave no comment.

Due to several ambiguities in the case, Starfleet JAG states that this will be a difficult case to push against Captain Lovelace. "Any files found in regards to the defendant's activities could have well been a result of the investigating party planting them there," says the defense council.

Charges against the Gateway staff officers were dropped during the investigation, and their positions have been restored. In response to questions of what the crew of the Gateway intended to do in light of the dropped charges, Commander Xana Bonviva, Commanding Officer of the Gateway Station, responded, "Rest. I think we've all earned it."

Public reaction is mixed. Many express relief in what is being seen as rectification for false arrests. Essentialists spokepeople, however, claim corruption at the highest levels, and are calling for investigation into the JAG system.
