Starfleet Adopts New Uniforms

In a press release from the Public Affairs Office this morning, Admiral Adam Heyting reported that the Federation Council working with Chief of Staff Fleet Admiral Catherine Seamore and Federation Council Representative Admiral Maranwë Linwëlin approved a completely new wardrobe for those in uniform. This puts to end the grey on black over division color tunic uniforms in service since the late 2380's, as well as replaces the division color wraparounds that have been prototyped throughout the fleet over the past few years. In his statement, Admiral Heyting had this to say about the reason for the change.

"Starfleet has always made a point in updating its uniform designs from time to time. We wish to be able to be easily identified in a crowd of people, much like the military forces of Earth's history. Study's have shown, that a populations sense of security is increased with a highly visible military force. While Starfleet's main purpose is exploration and scientific discovery, we are the ones to fulfill the military needs of the Federation as well."

Admiral Heyting went on to explain about the failed prototype "This style of uniform had highly mixed reviews from those who had to wear it. While we wish to maintain high visibility within the population, we dont want to offend anyone. Most reviews of the uniform came back with high praise for comfort and ease of dressing, but the overall color sceme was too garish and bright. From what i understand the Marine Corps flat out refused to wear it, because of this reason."

"We took the favored design and came up with a series of different uniforms, looking into our planet's history for inspiration. We were very pleased with the reactions the new design recieved from the fleet and civilians both on world and off alike."

Admiral Heyting reported that the new uniforms would start phasing into the fleet immediately, some may have already seen officers and enlisted alike in the new design.
