Starfleet's mission of "boldly going where no one has gone before" has opened up untold areas of the galaxy. In these areas, countless planets and civilizations have been encountered. A branch of Starfleet has been created to examine, sort and disperse all the information gathered concerning races, planets and other celestial bodies. That branch, Starfleet Science, will continue to fulfill its duties as Starfleet continues to fulfill its mission.

Starfleet Science has the duties listed above and many others.
For the sake of expediency, only the primary purposes are listed below.

• Maintenance of records of all known planets inside and outside the borders of the United Federation of Planets.

• Coordination of all scientific research for the U.F.P.
