CURRENT INTELLIGENCE The Tholians are the most xenophobic race in the known galaxy, for reasons still unknown. What limited contact the other races have had with the Tholians are only on distorted view screens; the Tholians actual appearance still a mystery. Ambassadors have acted as go-betweens - other beings hired as representative of the Tholian Assembly. What is known about the Tholians is limited. It is known that they are a very old race. It is also known that their normal environment would appear to be super hot methane, though this has yet to be confirmed. Their territory is largely unexplored because any ship that has ventured into Tholian space has been captured and crushed by their continually evolving tractor beam technology. Recently, the Tholians appear to want to begin communications with the Federation. They have allowed the voyage of only one ship, the U.S.S. Century by chance, to venture into its space and eventually make contact with them. The Tholians, however, appear in no hurry to do so quickly. Little is known about Tholian technology or their vessels. The rank of a starship commander is considered to be Captain, but many agree that this is merely the universal translator's closest approximation to the Tholian word (if it can be called such a thing). Recent evidence has come to light that the Tholians were once the Thal. When the Thal left this galaxy, it left behind a garrison. Over the years, the garrison has devolved and is now known as the Tholians.
