CURRENT INTELLIGENCE The Sossetan Tribes are a group of seventeen races on seventeen planets in the Sossetea or Sosseta system. A star system which sat inside the Mephles Nebula. The Mephles Nebula is a gaseous cloud body approximately 16 hours away from Gateway Station by shuttlecraft and 12 hours across at its narrowest point. Subspace communications are impossible while a craft is within the nebula, and most sensors are obsolete. The Nebula is situated about 8 hours from the Gamma Quadrant's terminus of the Bajoran Wormhole. The Tribes have formed an Alliance to keep the Dominion at bay, the exact date of that Alliance is unknown and/or unestablished. In the past 40 years, twice Dominion forces have attacked the Sossetans. The first attack was purely physical, and depleted their resources and manpower. The second attack was in the form of a biogenic plague that weakened the Sossetan people and hindered their ability to reproduce. The Sossetans' unified technology is considered quite strong, and they are thought to be as great a power as the Dominion is. They are as yet undiscovered and are completely separated from everything else by Dominion and the Nebula. In fact, a few of the planets in Sossetan space are still occupied at times by Dominion troops. The Tribes are poising themselves to attack and achieve revenge against the Dominion, through the use of biomechanical technology, much like the early Borg. However, where the Borg's initial motivation for developing a collective was the sharing of ideas and information, the Sossetan Tribes immediately desired payback. This places several groups on edge, including the Borg and the Federation. It placed the station crew in a dilemma, as the primary goal of that outpost is to 'make peace' with the Dominion with their presence there, after such a long time without any Starfleet personnel in the Gamma Quadrant. It should also be noted that the Sossetans initially lead the Federation to believe they were friendly, sending an Ambassador to the GATEWAY OUTPOST. It was only later they revealed their hostile intentions. There have been three tribes mentioned somewhat thus far: The Turnakians, the Cortan, and the Lanikan. The Turnakians represent the G'notkan Tribe, whose base is the planet Turnak. (Turnak is the fifth planet in the Membara System.) There are two other peoples who comprise the G'notkan Tribe, based on the two moons orbiting that planet, but the Turnakians are in the majority. Chelsa, the leader of the Turnakians and the Sossetan Tribes (referred to as the Grand Chieftan), is solidly behind the machinery implants to improve his people. The Cortan Tribe is led by a man named T'Lonkin. The Cortan Tribe's home planet (location and name as yet unestablished) has been under Dominion blockade for at least the past several months, so they have fallen behind on outfitting their people with the new technology. Chelsa has only recently introduced T'Lonkin to the new ways. The leader of the Lanikan tribe is named Voreen; other tribes mentioned include the Jenkan, Yendan, and Muban. The deity of the Sossetan people is named Undakan. The deity was revealed in mid 2415 to be the Pah Wraiths of the Bajoran Religion. These non-linear, non-corporal beings have taken the religious leader of the Sossetan into their fold, and are using him in order to manipulate the culture to do their bidding. It was also realized in 2415 that the Sossetan Empire had been building an armada in an alternate universe, using a transdimensional-cloaking device to hide it from known sensors. Commodore Martine of the GATEWAY OUTPOST revealed this armada before its completion sending the Gamma Quadrant back into a state of perpetual tension. The Sossetans are basically humanoid in appearance, with skin coloring and facial shaping reminiscent of aquatic or amphibious beings. Bluish and greenish-gray skin tones dominate, with red or crimson eyes. Racial differences between tribes have not been fully explored. According to the Ng'd'm people, a race of pink-skinned midgets who operate a tavern on the promenade of GATEWAY OUTPOST, the Ferengi have made contact with the Sossetans, in an effort to develop commercial relations. Whether or not it has been successful remains to be seen. In mid to late 2414, the Sossetans joined forces with the Neo-Collective in order to make a pre-emptive strike against the Dominion and take over the GATEWAY. However, this attempt to control the Gamma Quadrant was thwarted by Federation and Borg Federation forces, with the Founders' Home world was decimated in the process. Yet as revealed above, the Sossetans are still far from being a peaceful race, instead they are now a threat to most of the cultures in the Quadrant. In a matter of a moments the Sossetan Tribes (now the Sossetan Empire) have become one of the most feared races in the Gamma Quadrant, shadowing the ferocity of the Dominion.
