CURRENT INTELLIGENCE The Essentialists are a mostly civilian organization whose true motives are unknown, but suspected to be aimed at controlling Starfleet and changing the way Starfleet operates. Essentialists feel that Starfleet is riddled with corruption, and that by returning to simpler times, stressing the 'essentials' of honor, truth, etc. the fleet will grow in power and strength. The Essentialists see today's Starfleet as being in a state of decline from the 'glory days' of Captain Kirk and Mister Spock. They are much like present day militias who feel the (U.S.) government is not operating in the best interest of the citizens. However, for the most part, Essentialists use non-violent means to get their point across. They prefer subterfuge and secretive plots to outright aggression, although these acts are still often quite illegal. The most common advertising technique Essentialists use is word of mouth, in particular public speaking and rallies. They try to get Starfleet Officers to sign up, so that their more radical ideas can spread both outside and inside the fleet. Their goal is to convert Starfleet to a more honest group, where the original motives of exploration and meeting other cultures are stressed rather than trade treaties, wealth, and using the service for personal gains instead of humanity. The Essentialists today includes a triumverate of leaders at the top. This is somewhat like a President, Vice President, and Chief of Staff. Monte Christoper [Human male] 'President'
