RAPTOR-CLASS Escort Destroyer

Technical Specifications, Revision 01
Starfleet Engineering, Utopia Planitia Shipyards

GENERAL NOTES

The Raptor was designed to replace both the Sabre and the Defiant Class ships. As the Defiant class aged, more and more problems came up in their design. It wasnt as easy of a fix anymore to keep these ships from shaking themselves apart when fully powered up. While they still suit their roles as escorts, their feasibility for uprated weaponry and shields is almost non existent due to the problems in engine design. Starfleet also noted that the Sabre class was a little light in the weapons department, and saw its role comming to an end as well. It was decided to design a class that could replace both these older classes, while incorporating advancement in technology as well as the best proven designs of both classes.

Raptor class is a similar size as Defiant. Part of the new design pushed the nacells away from the primary hull further to better increase performance ratings, thus getting better results with a smaller reactor core. This solved the problem of the Defiant class shaking itself apart. One advantage that Sabre had over Defiant were more spacious living accomodations. While this wasnt possible to incorporate into the Defiant class, it was incorporated into the Raptor. While ship size is the same as a Defiant, her crew compliment was reduced from 50 to 30 officers and men. Better Command and Control systems allowed for the reduced staff while continuing to allow for a fully functional Starship.
