OKINAWA-CLASS Destroyer

Technical Specifications, Revision 01
Starfleet Corps of Engineering - Archive File

GENERAL NOTES

Originally introduced in the 2260's, Okinawa class was Starfleet's answer to a need of quickly produced small vessels that weren't resource intensive. These ships served for decades 2-3 years at a time as police/patrol ships along the then volatile neutral zone between the Federation and Klingon Empires as well as the Romulan Neutral Zone.

the class was originally retired in 2360, as new more powerfull destroyers were commissioned, dwarfing the capabilities of the okinawa class. During the Dominion war, more and more ships were needed at the front lines, leaving support roles stretched thinly throughout the Federation. The Okinawa class ships, which had lain dark and silent for so long once again were given a fresh breath of life, refitted, and joined the fleet in a support role to the more modern vessels. The final Okinawa was permanantly retired in 2410, stripped of advanced armaments, and are now being sold off to merchants and lesser powers.
