GENERAL NOTES

Nova class was designed to be a versatile ship that fit many mission parameters. Over time, with the many threats the Federation started to face, Nova class was morphed into a Destroyer cabable of light combat missions and assigned to Destroyer wings in various Tactical Fleets. Over time, Every mark one was refitted into a mark-2 Heavy Destroyer, equipped with heavier weapons shields, and fighter wings. With this overhaul the mark-1 dissappeared from service.

Starfleet Engineers pulled out the original plan for the Nova class late in 2420. With the upgrades, it left Starfleet without a standard every day use Destroyer like the Mark-1 was supposed to fill. They also drew up variant plans beyond the mark 2 and 3 to allow the mark-1 series to be one of the most versatile classed ships in the fleet. 2 variants on the mark 1 were developed. The first, was a return to the science focus that the original designers envisioned for the ship when they built the Equinox. The loss of that ship halted the exploration of this role, and Starfleet focused more on the tactical version. The third version is designed to be used as a VIP transport and couriers. Because this model shares commonalities with the Hornet and Prescott classes, it is estimated that they will keep eachother finacially feasible to maintain and build into the next century.
