INVESTIGATOR-CLASS FAST CRUISER
Technical Specifications, Revision 01
Starfleet Engineering, SB4, Orbiting Mars

| GENERAL NOTES When the unification of Vulcan and the Romulan Star Empire became official, the Starfleet Spacecraft Design Advisory Commission (SSDAC) revived the project of the Investigator-class which had been cancelled in 2412 after the Seventh War of Retribution, during which the first plans for this class had been laid out to counter the threat of the Kem D'Neel. The aim was to create a most reliable Starship which could serve as a mobile platform mainly for intelligence and diplomatic operations. The typical mission profile for Investigator-class vessels is to inquire in cases of criminal activity like terrorism, to be used as Starships for undercover operations or diplomatic missions. This accounts for the massive emphasis on science equipment to enable the crew to find answers to questions others may want to keep unanswered, weapons technology to allow for perfect safety of the vessel and the crew aboard and cloaking systems to enable the ships to access areas with heavy hostile presence. On taking the plans up again the SSDAC reworked them using the latest in weapons and science technology, but older components for all crew-support systems which had already proved their worth in previous vessels. All plans had the goal to create a vessel which would be as reliable as possible even during times of great stress. The Operations Surveillance Center, a room to oversee undercover as well as investigational operations has been located on Deck 1 where all of the ship's command facilities are to be found. When the crew pattern had been decided upon, the Advanced Starship Design Bureau (ASDB) thought that a center to relieve the bridge of the additional stress of guiding security and science efforts was needed. Thus, the Operations Surveillance Center also features direct computer as well as turbolift links to the Security and Science Centers located on deck 9. Investigator-class vessels have vast offensive power but are not destined to make war to other vessels, rather to defend themselves and their mission's objectives. To serve that purpose, the Investigator-class starships have also been equipped with newly refined Warp and Transwarp drives to enable them to cross as much distance in as little time as possible, as well as the newest the Federation has to offer in shielding technology. Ironically, it is these designs that allow the Investigator-class starship to step so easily into the role of long-range explorer. All of the six starships now in service are assigned to long-range exploration missions, beyond the boundaries of Known Space. -- DECK LISTINGS (STANDARD) -Deck 1: Main Bridge, Captain's Ready Room, OSC, Conference Lounge -Emergency Escape Pods: Decks 3-6, 12-17, 24, 26 |
