HELLESPONT CLASS TROOP TRANSPORT

Technical Specifications, Version 01
Starfleet Engineering, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, Sol

GENERAL NOTES

Hellespont Class is not a new design. They date back to the latter half of the 24th century and were designed and built to ferry troops, be them Starfleet Marines, or Security forces onto the front lines. They are heavily armed for a ship of their size, and have a capable defensive package as well. The ablative armor on the ship's hull assists in the survivability of the craft while delivering its payload. The hull can also be polarized to assist in absorbing energy weapon impacts.

Following the end of the Dominion war, most of these ships were mothballed to be reactivated as the need arose. The first time they were once again needed was during the Romulan incursion where they were able to land 3000 Marines on Vulcan soil to turn out the Romulans who were entenched there. Following that encounter, the Hellespont class was removed from service to be updated with modern Transwarp drive. Now, with the Dominion engaging in hostilities again, and in an ever increasingly hostile galaxy the Hellespont class is ready for action, to once again deliver much needed ground forces into combat areas. Hellespont Class has been outfitted with the same Klingon designed Transporter system as the Farpoint class. With the ability to transport much larger contingent forces by sacrificing distance. The units have been shown to be able to transport through weaker shielding units.

A ship of note, USS Hellespont, then NX-81044 now NX-20600, was thrown forward 34 years into 2409 from 2375. The USS Ticonderoga met them at the arrival point, and towed a heavily damaged ship back to base for repairs. The Hellespont was returned to her own time with most of her crew intact. Reports indicated a overpowered experimental warp drive, combined by massive weapons fire created the time rift that Hellespont was drug through.
