| GENERAL NOTES
Commissioned in 2418 and completed in 2421, the GATEWAY complex is the single largest complex belonging to Starfleet and the dominant presence of Starfleet in the Gamma Quadrant. The new improved GATEWAY complex is actually an assembly of 9 different modules - five main stations and four auxiliary repair docks. Travel between modules can be accomplished by shuttles, transporters and across retractable walkways linking the five main modules. In times of war the different walkways and tube links can be retracted back into their respective modules - the whole complex becomes even more defensible with the addition of each module's own weapons arrays and shields, which overlap with the other modules making it far harder for an attack to succeed. The GATEWAY hangs like a silent guardian over the planet ANDARA, its gigantic framework visible in parts of the night sky. It stands in mute testimony to the ability of the peoples of Starfleet who built it, and a memorial to those who died defending the GS-1 station before it.

Gateway Class Operations Module The central Operations Module is the heart of the GATEWAY complex in more than one way. All the command decisions are made here from Main Operations, and it is here that there senior staff, Admiralty officers, and all visiting diplomats reside. All as well as Main Operations, this module houses Sickbay, the Security Centre, and all the science labs
Gateway Class Habitat Module The Habitat Module, as its name suggests, is where the vast majority of the station's population live. There are a large number of holodecks and a small number of promenade-like facilities on the station, but the ease of transportation to and from the Recreational Module means that nothing more is needed here. The Habitat Module can hold up to half a million people in a crisis - its current population is never fixed, but is usually around 150,000, making it a floating city in space.
Gateway Class Commerce Module The enormous Commerce Module is the central hub of all the trading that passes through GATEWAY, as well as containing massive amounts of storage for such a mammoth operation. This module is always busy with thousands of people moving to and fro conducting their businesses. It also houses the Quartermaster's offices, almost two hundred docking bays, and a dedicated Security office. Although suitable for docking shuttles and small private craft, this is not where the big starships dock. This in no way undermines the Commerce Module, as it is constantly busy.
Gateway Class Recreation Module The Commerce Module is where the traders conduct their business on GATEWAY, but it is the Rec Module where the consumer spends their latinum on their products. Split into two sections, the Rec Module houses the multi-decked Main Promenade, containing masses of shops, bars, and restaurants; while the other half houses gymnasiums, holodecks, theatres, concert halls, and arboretums.
Gateway Class Engineering Module As vast as the Commerce Module is, it is dwarfed by the huge Engineering Module, the largest module making up the GATEWAY complex. It is here that starships from a myriad of worlds dock for repairs or shore leave, and where the space-liners from the major transportation companies come and go. There is a large Federation Immigration Bureau office here to control the ebb and flow of peoples, as well as many thousands of Starfleet and private engineers working on the hundreds of ships that are docked here at any one time. There are also four dedicated repair modules which can hold several large starships each - these are used for the refitting and repair of badly damaged ships.
