| GENERAL NOTES 2290 Excelsior mk2 ordered to provide extra sensor packages to Excelsior class ships, which would be better suited as Exploratory vessels 2293 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B, First mk2 Excelsior Class, commissioned 2343 Final Excelsior Class mk2 ship Commissioned 2372 Excelsior class refitted with new weapons and shields in preparations for the Dominion war 2385 Excelsior phase-out begins with older ships. Phase out proceeds until 2410 when final Excelsior class is retired, Many retired ships are sold to civilian contractors for private use. 2415 Starfleet Operations in Conjuncture with Starfleet Engineering came to the decision that specialized starships were needed for specific tasks now being assigned to the current fleet taking them away from their own missions which they were suited for. A study was commissioned based on available resources, and need to implement a development project for a Colony Support Ship that could scout prospective sites, and lay the foundations of new settlements while providing security for those settlers. 2417 Study Commission filed report that it was fiscally unfeasible to develop an entirely new type of ship for such limited uses, especially while still rebuilding the fleet from the 7th War 2420 Chief of Starfleet Engineering in meeting the success of the Excelsior, altered the refit plans for the modified Excelsior classes, which already carried the needed sensor upgrades needed for this type of ship. Also, the upgrades given to these ships for the Dominion war made this project far more cost effective than a new starship class. Starfleet Command authorized the remaining 5 mark 2 Excelsior Class ships to be refitted for this purpose. The redevelopment project has been hailed by federation civilians who have long thought that Starfleet was wasteful in its resources. -- | BASIC INFORMATION Class: Excelsior mk II Number in Service: 5 Class List: USS LAKOTA NCC-910 VESSEL COMPLEMENT (STANDARD) Total: 680 PROPULSION SYSTEMS Impulse Propulsion System (IPS): Warp Propulsion System (WPS): Warp Speeds: Transwarp Speeds: TACTICAL SYSTEMS Phaser Systems: Quantum Torpedo Systems: Deflector Shield Systems: Bio-regenerative Hull Matrix: OTHER SYSTEMS Transporters: Holodecks: Computers: Shuttlebays: Embarked Craft: |
