EXCELSIOR-CLASS MARINE TRANSPORT
Technical Specifications, Revision 01
Starfleet Engineering, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, Sol

| GENERAL NOTES 2283 The Excelsior class was originally designed as a test bed for Starfleet’s first experimental transwarp drive. Having been sabotaged in the engines’ first transwarp test and having failed in all subsequent attempts, the Excelsior prototype was refitted with a conventional warp drive. As full production started on the Excelsior class, the ship became the mainstay of the fleet in the late 23rd and early 24th centuries, replacing the older Constitution class as the flagship class. 2343 Final Excelsior Class ship Commissioned 2372 Excelsior class refitted with new weapons and shields in preparations for the Dominion war 2385 Excelsior phase-out begins with older ships. Phase out proceeds until 2410 when final Excelsior class is retired, Many retired ships are sold to civilian contractors for private use. 2415 Starfleet Operations in Conjuncture with Starfleet Engineering came to the decision that specialized starships were needed for specific tasks now being assigned to the current fleet taking them away from their own missions which they were suited for. A study was commissioned based on available resources, and need to implement a development project for a Marine Transport ship that could deploy hundreds of troops in short order, as well as defendend itself while doing so. 2416 Study Commission filed report that it was fiscally unfeasible to develop an entirely new type of ship for such limited uses, especially while still rebuilding the fleet from the 7th War 2419 Chief of Starfleet Engineering took it upon himself to design and order a prototype using the old USS Excelsior, which had been in the surplus yards for decades. It was determined that the upgrades given to these ships for the Dominion war made this project far more cost effective than creating an entirely new starship class. Starfleet Command authorized the remaining 9 mark 1 Excelsior Class ships to be refitted for this purpose. The redevelopment project has been hailed by federation civilians who have long thought that Starfleet was wasteful in its resources. -- | BASIC INFORMATION Class: Excelsior Number in Service: 9 Class List: NCC-900 USS Excelsior VESSEL COMPLEMENT (STANDARD) Total: 680 PROPULSION SYSTEMS Impulse Propulsion System (IPS): Warp Propulsion System (WPS): Warp Speeds: Transwarp Speeds: TACTICAL SYSTEMS Phaser Systems: Quantum Torpedo Systems: Deflector Shield Systems: Bio-regenerative Hull Matrix: OTHER SYSTEMS Transporters: Holodecks: Computers: Shuttlebays: Embarked Craft: |
