GENERAL NOTES

Cheyenne Class was built to replace the aging Constellation class starships. Starfleet spent a decade researching the failings of the constelation class and designing improvements so the new Cheyenne class wouldnt suffer the same fate. The USS Cheyenne was commissioned in 2363 from the Antares Shipyards. After 2 years of continuous trials, the class was authorized for a limited production cycle of 10 Starships. these ships were built between 2365 and 2370. Unlike the class they replaced, these ships weren't underpowered and functioned quite well in their role of a Quick Responder. One flaw in the design did make itself known. The lack of Armament made it hard for this class to defend itself in an hostile situation. However, Starfleet wasnt willing to give up on the class just yet. Given re-enforced shielding, and some ablative armor as well as 2 additional phaser arrays that coulf fire aft, the defensive capability of the Cheyene class was increased dramatically. Starfleet then ordered 10 more ships, and all existing vessels to be refitted with the new design. With the Borg Invasion at the battle of wolf 359, the threats of the Cardassians, Klingons, Breen, Dominion, and yet another Attempt by the Borg to assimilate Earth the Cheyenne class lost 8 of the 20 ships commissioned and by the early 2400's had been reduced to a support role within the borders of the Federation. As with many of Starfleets Classes, with the incorporation of Transwarp into the fleet, Starfleet pulled the Cheyenne class from active service. The remaining 12 vessels are held in mothballs at starbase 317
