| A Message from the Former Commandant
of Starfleet Academy
"What is important is to keep learning, to enjoy
challenge, and to tolerate ambiguity. In the end there are no certain
answers."
With a host of challenges and threats awaiting the Federation and its constituents, cadet training has turned a corner. In the ever changing worlds around us, there is no room for complacency or stagnancy. It is with this ideal that we move forward to a new horizon, to prepare for a future that is at times gratifying as well as horrifying. In order to better meet the needs of both the Federation and the diverse legion of graduating cadets who boldly go forth united under the Starfleet delta, The Officer Training Program has been relocated to Starfleet Academy and been given a new moniker: Advanced Command Training. Since we have received and will continue to receive the best that Starfleet has to offer, it makes sense to begin the daunting task of qualifying officers before cadets actually graduates the Academy, rather than after they have passed the rigorous four-year program. Along these lines, the ACT program is reserved as the last rite of passage for those wishing to serve on one of the ships of the line. Under the expert tutelage of myself and a dedicated and experienced staff, it is our sincere desire to guide you and assist you into becoming the senior staff officers of tomorrow. For it is not the duty itself that makes Starfleet great; it is each and every person's contribution to the crew as a whole that defines its worth. It is a challenge, to be certain. But the rewards are far greater than the risks. The Academy environment encourages the learning process, with both real classroom and holodeck simulation interaction for each cadet. Personal growth and teamwork are emphasized equally, with the understanding that attention to inner development fosters positive outer development. The toughest weeks of your Academy life await you. You will be tested on a proving ground that questions who you are as much as what knowledge you have acquired. However, if you can emerge on the other side with any new insight or perspective on what it takes to be a Starfleet officer, it will be well worth the effort. |
