Experiment Report for the Eratosthenes Project on http://youth.net/ School Name: Nardin Academy School Location: Buffalo, New York Email Address: duranduran77_at_adelphia.net Experimenter: Rachel Duran Latitude 42.886N Longitude: 78.878W Distance to Equator: 4875km Measured shadow angle in degrees: 43.15 Calculated Earth circumference: 40657km Comments: We used 30 ft flag pole in front of our school. It cast a shadow of 32 ft. We also measured the flagpole's shadow at noon. The measurement at noon and the measurement at solar noon, when averaged, come very close to the correct circumference of the earth.
