Experiment Report for the Eratosthenes Project on http://youth.net/ School Name: Bayside Elementary school School Location: Stevensville MD USA Email Address: Beersj@qacps.k12.MD.us Experimenter: Bayside boys Latitude 38:59 Longitude: 76:19 Distance to Equator: 4330.4558/2691.625 Measured shadow angle in degrees: 40 Calculated Earth circumference: 38974.1 km/24224.625mi Comments: Eratosthenes had a very close estimate to the real answer.It was a dificult and challenging project.It was fun to find the numbers in the equation and where they go.We would have a beter result if we would have been more exact aboat the latitude and if we would have been more precise on our angle measurement. We wish we could have done it again.We are glad that people let our school be able to do this fun activity because it teaches us about very hard math. Eratosthenes was very smart because he came very close to the real answer without anything to help him find the answer to this question. We hope lots of other people can do this experiment and have as much fun as we did.
